To law school applicants, it is not just aboutĀ  passing the examinations or submitting a remarkable law school personal statement. They also have to provide at least two letters of recommendation as part of the requirement.

Basics on letters of recommendation

Letters of recommendation can be specific or general. Specific letters of recommendation are especially written for a particular law school. Basically, a good letter of recommendation must offer a summary of the applicant’s capabilities. Details should include the extent and nature of the relationship between the letter-maker and the applicant. The writer may also offer a personal view on how he or she thinks of theĀ  applicant as a future law school student.

Requirements for letters of recommendation

A law school may also ask for three letters of recommendation. Some law schools may prefer having the letter of recommendation written by a professor. Other schools, however, simple require that these letters be made by people who really know the applicant well. In this case, the letter-writer could be a former professor, current employer, or a colleague.

It would be to your advantage if the source of your letter of recommendation is an esteemed professor or any professional who has built a good name for him or herself. Ideally, you should develop good relationships not only with your college professors but also with people you’ve previously worked with. Politely ask them to write letters of recommendation. Pay them a personal visit or at least lodge a personal request. Just be sure that they have enough time to accomplish this task.

It is not a bad idea to ask somebody to prepare a letter of recommendation early as you can. You can keep these letters through the Law School Data Assembly Service. The Law School Admissions Council could also send the letters of recommendation to your chosen law schools and may notify of the delivery.
