Explore Your Potentials through an Online Law School
The Internet has opened a lot of opportunities for students of all ages, and the study of law is not an exception. While there are no ABA-accredited online law schools in the United States, some states do allow distance education law students to take the bar. Through an online school, prospective lawyers can finish their studies without having to attend an actual school and are better able to manage their time by taking up law courses at home.

Online law school graduates and the bar exams
So law students may be able to take the bar examinations and practice as lawyers, they need to attend an accredited institution, specifically one that has been accredited by the American Bar Association. Graduates of law schools not recognized by the ABA will not be able to take the bar examinations, and consequently, will not be able to practice as full-fledged lawyers.
In California, however, students who have obtained their legal studies through an online school are permitted to take the bar examinations. It is not enough, however, for the prospective bar examiners to simply complete their legal studies before they can participate in the bar exams. They also need to meet specific requirements, such as passing the first-year law student’s examination.
Distance learning options
If you reside in California and are planning to take up an online law school for your plans to become a lawyer, it is possible for you to practice as a lawyer should you pass the bar examinations. If you reside in other states, where graduates of non-ABA accredited online law schools are not allowed to sit in for the bar exams, you might want to consider moving to California. After passing the bar exams, you may begin your law career in California, and after a few years of work experience, it will be possible for you to move to other states to practice as a lawyer.
Attending an online law school is often a time-saving, convenient, and more cost-effective option in the completion of your legal studies. However, there is no online law school that has earned the accreditation of the ABA. As much as an online law school can be instrumental in your career goals as a lawyer, you might want to check first whether you can actually pursue your legal career through the online school, or at least be permitted to take the bar exams.
